Interior Painting Cost in San Antonio, TX (2026): Room-by-Room Pricing

Interior painting is the San Antonio project you can do in August without fighting the weather. Prices turn on three things here: ceiling height in the newer north-side homes, the knockdown and orange-peel texture on most walls built since the 1990s, and the trim and door count. Here is what it costs in 2026.

Room-by-room pricing

A standard 12x12 bedroom, walls only, runs $425 to $800, plus $200 to $375 for the ceiling. Bathrooms are $325 to $650 — small rooms but slow, with cut-ins around tile, mirrors and fixtures.

Two-story entries and great rooms with 18-to-20-foot ceilings, common in Stone Oak and Alamo Ranch, run $1,000 to $2,400 because of staging and lift time. A whole 1,800 to 2,500 square foot interior with trim lands between $4,200 and $8,500.

Texture changes the material math

Knockdown and orange-peel walls hold considerably more paint than smooth drywall — often 15% to 25% more per coat. A bid that prices your textured house like a flat-wall house will either come up short on coverage or arrive as a change order.

If you are patching texture, make sure the bid includes matching it. A smooth patch on a knockdown wall reads as a bright flat spot under any side light.

What actually raises a quote

Trim, doors and baseboards are typically 30% to 40% of an interior job. So is a color change dramatic enough to need a third coat — going from a deep accent wall to white always does.

Furniture moving, floor protection and drywall repair should each appear as their own line. Ask how patching is billed: hourly or as an allowance.

Getting comparable bids

Every estimate should name product and sheen by surface, the number of coats, whether ceilings are included, the trim and door count, and the daily working hours and crew size.

Ask for a scrubbable matte or eggshell in living areas and a satin or semi-gloss in kitchens and baths, and confirm the labor warranty in writing. Two bids on the same house usually differ on trim scope, not on wall paint.

Typical cost ranges

Bedroom, 12x12, walls only$425 - $800
Ceiling, standard room$200 - $375
Bathroom$325 - $650
Two-story entry or great room$1,000 - $2,400
Whole home, 1,800-2,500 sq ft$4,200 - $8,500
Trim and doors only$1,200 - $3,200

Ranges are general estimates gathered from homeowner-reported quotes, not an offer or a quote for your project.

Common questions

How long does a whole-home interior take?

Four to seven working days for 1,800 to 2,500 square feet with trim, using a two- or three-person crew working room by room.

Does wall texture cost more to paint?

Yes. Knockdown and orange-peel texture absorb 15% to 25% more paint per coat than smooth drywall, and patches must be texture-matched to disappear.

Should I paint ceilings too?

If it has been more than about eight years, yes — fresh walls make an older ceiling obvious, and doing both at once is cheaper than returning later.
